Sunlight and Shadow: A Retelling of The Magic Flute by Cameron Dokey

Why would we want it shown instead of told? The begin I was totally unfamiliar to the tale of The Magical Flute, so I went into the story without any background. I liked the idea of her disappearing because she was “out of the birth order” while in line for a while – I wish something had been done more about that, since it was really intriguing. The book starts out with a classic Cameron Dokey opening. I don’t know if there were magic bells in The Magic Flute, but there were magic bells in this story and the bells and the flute led the players to the one who held their heart, or the heart of the one who was on your mind as you played.
