Want to Read Currently Reading Read. It sounded fascinating, and I was quite intrigued by the first chapter, which was narrated by a ‘ghost’ named Jared. An annoying book that does not provoke ‘deeper thoughts’ and ‘questions about life’ What starts off as a moderately interesting book with a clever story and filled with pop culture references, the book delves into this annoying, dreary and deviating,rant and I stress the word rant about ‘life’ and ‘it’s meaning’ and the ending is just bad, and just a huge bunch of annoying and forgettable characters who are depressed for no particular reason and seem depressed even when there is meant to be joy.

In the second quote from pageRichard expounds on a similar theme. At the end of the book, we are left with many unanswered questions, most of them of our own making, hopefully.

Doulas am sure that there are many for whom this book is wonderful yet, for one, I cannot understand those plaudits nor the acclaim with which Douglas Coupland is held. From what I’ve read, this seems to be the least popular of Coupland’s novels.

Only hours after losing her virginity, Karen loses consciousness as well–for almost two decades. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Parts 1 and 2 of this book, but the last hundred pages or so felt like I was trapped in a bad post-apocalytic movie.

But there’s a lot of good stuff too, to say nothing of the fact that it’s named after a Smiths song, and there are countless Smith song references contained throughout the text. How can we not have one? Coupland attempts to create progression for the characters but it is impossible because the dissimilar genres prevent me from enjoying the novel as a cohesive whole.

Other than I copland that this book was a complete and utter waste of my precious time. At this point I am a cynical bitch with xoma time for this sort of self-involved frippery, I guess. Girlfriend in a Coma starts off strange–then gets stranger, culminating in the end of the world. It’s because the earth is now totally ours. After a gimmicky prologue dohglas the voice of the dead Jared, Coupland soon shifts gears, displaying a new-found maturity and sharpness.

This book represents everything I loved about myself from my early 20’s, and everything from that era I hate and of which I’m deeply ashamed. For my couplabd, I couldn’t stop thinking of Brett Easton Ellis, that one book where all the twenty-somethings do a bunch of coke and fuck each other?
