To me, the coolest part of the book is when he stops critiquing move lame physics you actually find in movies, and offers up cool little nuggets of physics that should be in movies and are true to the laws of physics, to boot.

This is not a book that tries to dissect illogical plot points, continuity errors such as a stain that magically disappears and pnysics reappears from scene to scene and filming errors such as an extra wearing a college sweatshirt in phyiscs Rome.

I love reading this kind of stuff. Movie nerds and nerds alike will love this takedown of hilariously terribly movie physics. In this clip Iron Man is shot down and hits the ground at a speed comparable to that of a missile. This led me to wonder what else I could dream up along the same lines — a flashy, high-tech tidbit that could jazz up a movie, but based on actual science.

Thanks for telling us about the problem. Very technical but lots of fun insights into movie making. As one might surmise from the title Insultingly Stupid Movie Physics ranks movies based insulyingly their adherence to the physical laws of the universe, which many seem to casually ignore.

As a physics teacher who often used movies and TV to point out the ridiculous scientific mistakes that were common in the media, this book makes a great resource. This book is written in an entertaining style, if a bit snide at times and I feel that term “insultingly stupid” in the title is a bit hyperbolic and may be off putting to some potential readers, but these are very minor points that I choose to ignore.

It is a great way for a student to hone their understanding of physics using the format of popular movies. Stupis makes a few interesting observations, and debunks a few of the more ubiquitous and less obvious movie-physics-isms using clear diagrams and equations, but these are few and far between. This book is not yet featured on Listopia.

In this fascinating and funny guide, author Tom Rogers examines 20 different topics and shows how, when it comes to filmmaking, the rules of physics are insultinbly. The mocking tone comes off as sneering and condescending rather than good-natured and humorous, which made me feel almost sympathetic for such terrible films as Pearl Harbor and Armageddon.
